Case Study – Safety Compliant Automated Gate Safe Installation
Client: Phoenix Integrated Security / Kings College
Location: London
Year Completed: 2016
Background
The customer, Kings College, London, was founded by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington (then Prime Minister) in 1829 as a university college. It was set up in the tradition of the Church of England, but now welcomes staff and students of all faiths and beliefs. Kings College were carrying out a complete overhaul of the student accommodation block and access area.
Brief
Phoenix Integrated Security needed a partner to work with them to design, build, install and commission a Gate Safe. The current facility had a manual vehicle gate, with integral pedestrian access. This whole set up needed to be upgraded to an automated version. However, there were two key aspects to the brief. 1. It was important that the gates continued to have a similar look to the original ones. 2. Vehicles and pedestrians now had to have separate access. Phoenix Integrated Security chose Teksec to work as their partner on this project.
Project installation
Working with Phoenix Integrated Security, we carried out an initial assessment of the site to ascertain the correct Gate Safe specification. We then designed, built and installed the automated replacement, meeting the design criteria successfully. We then ensured all relevant Kings College staff were trained on the day-to-day operation of the installed equipment.
Project outcome
Kings College, London, now operates a safety compliant, automated, Gate Safe system that enables separate vehicular and pedestrian access. The site is able to operate safely and securely 24/7/365, meeting all regulatory requirements.
